Mustang Heartbreaker in Overtime: Muir Falls to Charter Oak, 17–14 It took a few days to process this one — and even longer to put it into words.

Muir football’s playoff run came to a gut-wrenching close last Friday night, falling in overtime to Charter Oak, 17–14, in the CIF-SS Division 4 semifinal in Covina. Despite out gaining the Chargers 264–188 in total yards, Muir couldn’t capitalize late. The Mustangs’ defense held strong all night, but Charter Oak’s short-yardage execution in overtime made the difference.

Gamble and Blaylock lead the way. Senior quarterback Trey Gamble turned in another strong performance, completing 14 of 30 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 12 rushing yards. His poise kept Muir within striking distance all night. Junior receiver Deveon Blaylock continued to be Muir’s go-to playmaker, hauling in three receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown, including several key catches in tight coverage. On the ground, Zion McDonald led the rushing attack with 67 yards and a score on 17 carries, keeping the offense balanced and tough to defend.

For Charter Oak, quarterback Corin Berry accounted for both Charger touchdowns — rushing for 26 yards and two scores, while passing for 139 yards. Senior wideout Damian Huff paced the receiving corps with 72 yards on five catches. While Muir’s defense limited Charter Oak’s big plays and won the battle for total yardage, the Chargers’ short-yard power game came through when it mattered most — in overtime.

A Season to Remember

The loss ends an incredible run for the Mustangs, who finish the season 9–2 after four straight road victories and a campaign defined by grit and resilience. From highlight moments to big plays under the Friday night lights, this team embodied the spirit of  'Stang football — fast, physical, and fearless.
